Recently, a number of teachers in the Forney Independent
School District received a little more support in their classrooms when they
were awarded a teacher’s grant from the Forney ISD Education Leadership
Foundation. The non-profit organization that supports the students and staff
members of Forney ISD awarded more than $42,000 in teacher grants to 23
teachers this year. Members of the foundation recently visited several schools
in the District and awarded the grants to teachers in an effort to enhance the
educational programs in their classrooms.
The grants are available to all Forney ISD teachers,
administrators and staff members in an effort to support innovative
instructional programs which positively impact Forney ISD students. Since 2007
when the teacher grant program began, the foundation has awarded more than
$350,000 to Forney ISD teachers and staff members to fund programs for their
classrooms and/or departments.
A number of local businesses and individuals also helped
fund the teacher grants this year. Businesses and individuals who financially
supported the grants include InTex Electric, Edward Jones Financial, the Forney
High School Parent Teacher Organization, Family Medical Practice, the Forney
Messenger and WRA Architects.
Although the foundation awarded the grants to the teachers,
the real beneficiaries will be the students who will get to use the new
equipment in the classrooms!
